Indium, In (Indium) belongs to the 13th group of the periodic table, atomic number 49. Belongs to the group of light metals. Indium is a malleable, low-melting, very soft metal of a silvery-white color. It is used in the production of liquid crystal displays for the application of transparent film electrodes; it has high thermal conductivity. It is used for forced-cooled electronic components in pure form or in an alloy with silver, for coating mirrors, in particular, car headlights, while the reflectivity of mirrors is not worse than that of silver, and resistance to atmospheric influences is higher.

It is used in the coating of astronomical mirrors, since indium has a constant reflectivity of mirrors in the visible part of the spectrum. It is used to coat aluminum pistons of diesel engines to reduce wear.
